Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian education system is distinguished from many other countries by the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). The AQF, which started in 1995, is a national policy that covers qualifications and titles from the tertiary education sector (higher education and technical education/vocational training), in addition to the certificate obtained upon completion of secondary school: the Certificate of Education Higher Secondary.

The AQF has 10 levels and links school, technical education/vocational and university qualifications and degrees in a national system. This allows you to easily move from one level of study to the next and from one institution to another, as long as you meet the visa/student visa requirements. All AQF qualifications and degrees help prepare you both for further study and for your working life.

If you study an AQF qualification, you can be sure that your institution is government-chartered and nationally accredited, and that your degree or other AQF qualification is genuine.

Our institutions are linked throughout the country and the world, and this makes it easy to move from one course to another or from one institution to another; and formal coordination and recognition schemes mean that every step you take will contribute to your future, no matter what you study or what your career goals are.
